(Wilson, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs stayed undefeated at Fleming Stadium after taking down the Holly Springs Salamanders 10-3 on Thursday night. Including exhibition play, the Tobs are 6-0 at home to start 2019.
Wilson hopped on the board in the first inning. Jared Carr, Michael Calamari and Drew Devine picked up three straight hits in the inning with one out off Holly Springs starter Will Shirah to make it a 1-0 ballgame. Deshawn Lookout plated Calamari and Hunter Gore put the finishing touches with a two-run double. The Tobs led 4-0 out of the first.
Austin Kaplan plated a run in the second to get the Salamanders on the board but it was quickly answer back in the bottom of the inning by Wilson's Chris Meyers with a sacrifice fly. The Tobs jumped ahead in the third as Christian Avant smacked a two-run home run for his first hit in a Wilson Tobs' uniform. They led it 7-1.
The Salamanders and Tobs traded runs the rest of the way. Meyers singled home a pair in the sixth to bring his game RBI total to three for the second time this season. Holly Springs responded in the seventh with two but Wilson got one back in the eighth. The back-and-forth charade finished with a 10-3 final.
Nate Imig (2-0) was stellar in his second start with the Tobs. The right-hander from Leander, Texas tossed six innings of one run baseball, striking out five on five hits. Six innings is the longest outing of any Wilson pitcher this season. Shirah (0-1) was ran out of the ballgame after three innings, allowing seven runs, six of which were earned. The Tobs improve to 5-1 in Coastal Plain League play and remain atop of the northern division standings.
