Tobs snatch victory in rain shortened game

(Wilson, N.C.) – The Wilson Tobs snatched a victory from the Fayetteville SwampDogs in a rain shortened game Thursday night by a final of 8-4. It's the first rain shortened game for the Tobs this season.

Wilson scored four times in the bottom of the third inning. Drew DeVine plated the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly. The run was followed by a pair of RBI singles from DeShawn Lookout and Hunter Gore. Michael Calamari finished capped the inning with an RBI single of his own.

Jacob Gilmore made his Tobs' debut on the mound and did not disappoint. The Illinois State closer tossed three shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five and walking two. His fastball was the equalizer as he maneuvered through the Fayetteville lineup with relative ease.

Brandon Talley got the SwampDogs on the board with a two-run home run in the fourth. The Tobs plated three as a response in the fourth, led by a Gore two-run double. The Dogs and Tobs traded runs in the fifth and eventually played seven innings before an unexpected rain shower pounded Fleming Stadium at the start of the eighth inning, rendering the field unplayable. Wilson would take the win with an 8-4 final.

Steven Worley (1-0) was handed the win after 0.2 innings of relief. John Vanderploeg (0-2) took the loss. Wilson improved to 7-1 on the season.
