Imig strikes out eleven in walk off loss

(Martinsville, V.A.) – The Wilson Tobs lost in walkoff fashion to the Martinsville Mustangs on Friday night by a 4-3 final. The only time in the game the Tobs didn't have a lead was in the bottom of the ninth.

Shamoy Christopher got the Tobs on the board with an RBI single in the first inning. With the hit, Christopher eclipsed eighteen straight games reaching base which was a new Tobs season high. Wilson added another with a Michael Calamari double in the fourth, but surrendered a run in the bottom of the inning courtesy of a Dylan Tuttle single. The Tobs led 2-1 after four innings.

Tobs starter Nate Imig had his best outing of the season. The fifth-year senior from the University of Texas at Tyler allowed one run on four hits and six hits. The right-hander tied a Tobs' single game high with eleven strikeouts. He matches the mark set by Nick Hollas, who struck out eleven against the Edenton Steamers on June 22. Both games were played away from Fleming Stadium.

The Tobs and Mustangs traded runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Christopher brought home his second run of the night with a single in the seventh. Martinsville's Trey Woosley sacrificed in a run to respond in the bottom of the eighth. Wilson held a 3-2 lead going into the ninth.

CJ Gonzales came in for Wilson and got the first batter out on one pitch, but ran into trouble after. Four straight batters would reach with a walk and three hits, culminating into a two-run single from Jack Sigrist to win the game. Wilson would fall 4-3 to end their longest win streak of the season at six straight games. The win stopped a seven-game losing streak for Martinsville, their longest of the year. Gonzales (1-5) took the loss. Ryan Evans (1-1) earned his first win.

Wilson returns home on Sunday, July 21 to host the Morehead City Marlins. It's Bang for your Buck Sunday. Food specials include $1 hot dogs, $1 popcorn, $2 snowcones and $2 burgers with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM.
